Short description
Jamii is a free Danish app that brings everything local together on one map: concerts, shared dinners, flea markets, parkrun and offers from the place around the corner. Instead of searching through scattered Facebook groups, you can see what's happening in your neighborhood right now. Jamii is starting in Copenhagen.
Longer description
Jamii is a Danish app that brings together what's happening in the neighborhood on one map. Concerts, shared dinners, parkrun, flea markets, volunteer nights and local offers sit side by side, sorted by how close they are to you.
The idea came from a concrete annoyance: local life hasn't disappeared, it has just become hard to find. It is scattered across notice boards, association websites and half a dozen Facebook groups you have to be a member of to see anything at all. You usually only find out afterwards that something was going on right around the corner.
At the bottom of the map is a time card with the next fourteen days, so you can see when the most is going on. You can also set how much time you have and how you get around - then the map only shows what you can actually get to and back from. And you can filter for what you're looking for: free, for families, outdoors, cozy or music.
Jamii is free, without ads and without tracking. You don't need an account to look around, and your location never leaves your phone. Both neighbors and local places can post happenings, and Jamii adds happenings from the city's calendars itself, so the map is lively from day one.
The angle
Local life isn't dead, it's invisible. A city like Copenhagen has shared dinners, concerts, association nights and flea markets every single week, but they only exist for the people who are already in the right group. Jamii is an attempt to make it visible to everyone else - without ads, without an algorithm and without asking to follow your location.
